Our Mini Tennis programme which runs in 10-12 week blocks during term time, caters for children aged 3 - 11 years. Members or Non-Members can join in at any time, at any progression level. Hand-eye co-ordination, receiving and throwing skills, spacial awareness are worked on during agility and balance exercises. We have 17”-27” rackets to borrow for the sessions.
The TOTS start with 90mm light sponge balls, RED players continue with 75mm felt red balls which are 75% slower than a yellow ball and are played on a mini red court with dimensions of 11m x 5,5m, across a mini net which is max. 80cm high. Those players who are willing to take their tennis to a higher level than just the once per week session, can be invited to our RED Squad which is more technical and tactical oriented. In 2017 we signed up for the 1st time to the Aegon Team Tennis at Red level and in 2018 we are planning to also run an ORANGE Team. During the Winter box leagues are organized for all the levels.
In order to take part in the Team Tennis or our Winter Box League events, parents need to obtain a British Tennis Membership (BTM) number for their child here: https://www.lta.org.uk/member/signup/?product=child
For Tots we strongly advise rackets of 17”. For any more serious tennis players we advise the purchase of full graphite junior tennis rackets as opposed to aluminium or composite which are heavier and vibrate more at impact with the ball. These are usually available from 23” upwards.
